Siyum HaRambam To Take Place on Yud Gimmel Tishrei
12:36:AM Thursday, Sep 23, 2004

The Daily Rambam Learning Campaign, which is run by the Lubavitch Youth Organization in Israel, has announced that an international Siyum HaRambam siyum will be taking place in Tiberias on Tuesday, 13th Tishrei, yahrzeit of the Rebbe Maharash. The Lubavitch Youth Organization, headed by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Aharonov, in conjunction with the Chabad House in Tiberias, directed by Rabbi Yosef Kramer, will be organizing this event at the Rambam’s Tomb.

On 13th Tishrei, the 22nd cycle of the daily study of Rambam will be completed. This particular cycle includes the study of three chapters of Mishna Torah a day and the daily learning of Sefer HaMitzvos. The event will open at the Rambam’s Tomb at 7:00pm, with the recital of Tehillim, followed by the actual siyum. Various leading figures in Torah and Chassidus will take part in the event. This will be followed by the beginning of the new, 23rd, cycle of learning.

For the second part of the evening, the crowd will move on to the hall of the “Chof haShaket” Hotel, where the end of the cycle will be celebrated with divrei Torah, delivered by various leading figures in the world of Torah and Chassidus. In between, there will be lively singing and rejoicing.

The Lubavitch Youth Organization is providing transportation to the event from locations around the country. It is also supplying special “moreh shiur” calendars to facilitate daily study.

LIVING WITH MOSHIACH #145
12:43:AM Thursday, Sep 23, 2004

The chains of exile are stronger than mere physical chains.

They capture the mind.

Freedom becomes too high a concept to grasp.

Learning about Moshiach frees us from these chains and lifts our minds above the Exile.

Jew vs. Jew conflict escalates in Lithuania with closed shul, vigil
By Lev Krichevsky - JTA.org
12:46:AM Thursday, Sep 23, 2004

MOSCOW, Sept. 22 (JTA) — A dispute that has pitted Jew against Jew in Lithuania may be headed to the courts.

Simonas Alperavicius, the president of the Lithuanian Jewish community, told JTA that he was going to file a lawsuit this week to have the authorities remove a group of Jews from the synagogue yard, where they have been holding an around-the-clock vigil in support of one of the candidates for chief rabbi.

The threatened lawsuit is just the latest blow in a months-long power struggle over who controls Jewish life — and Jewish property expected to be returned to the Lithuanian Jewish community — in this former Soviet republic.

The crisis has escalated to the point where North American Jewish officials are being dragged into the dispute.

Chabad Rabbi Sholom Ber Krinsky and his followers, who are holding the vigil, said they would not abandon their attempts to have the synagogue re-opened months after Alperavicius ordered it shut amid a dispute over the post of Lithuania’s chief rabbi. continue...

The shiurim were all afternoon, no one went to sleep, it was a Rosh Hashono to remember. Rabbi Pinny's sermons were enjoyed by all. Seder Hanigunim was very moving, when 9 year old Moishe Lozenik sang with Reb. Heske Gansburg, there was not a dry eye. Rabbi Gansburg started many of the Niggunim, and for a second, we were back in those days. A retired Conservative Chazzan, and a Law Professor both put it all into words: This was a feast for the Neshomo and for the guf. The meals were great, and our Neshomo was fed 24 hrs a day. Next year in Yerusholayim. Habocher Hatomim Adi Goodman and his group of 5 wonderful Bochurim, Reuven Pinson, Tzvi Dechter, Peretz Motchkin, Shlomo Motchkin and Eli Deitsch(ben R' Yosef) led the great childrens' services.

Hundreds of Lubavitchers to spend Simchas Torah in Hebron
8:30:PM Thursday, Sep 23, 2004

This year, hundreds of Anash and Tmimim are expected to spend Simchas Torah in Hebron. The idea was initiated by Rabbi Yisroel Brod, director of the Lubavitch Youth Organization’s Chabad Houses department.

The Chabad House of Hebron, run by Rabbi Danny Cohen, is helping to make the arrangements. The Chabad families and the Tmimim will be hosted by local families. Hakafos will be taking place in the Cave of Machpelah. On Motzoei Shabbos, the custom of “hakafos shnios” will be observed, and hakafos will once again take place in the Cave of Machpelah.

Transportation will be provided from Chabad communities in Kfar Chabad, Jerusalem, Lod, Nachlas Har Chabad and Kiryat Gat, as well as other places.

In the evening, Mendy Jerufi and his band will perform. The event has been arranged with the cooperation of the security forces.

The Ivy League Torah Study Program Live-And-Learn Monsey Shabbatons
9:18:PM Thursday, Sep 23, 2004

The men’s and women’s divisions of the Ivy League Torah Study Program, under the auspices of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education, visited the Monsey Chabad community on two respective weekends this summer to participate in Live-and-Learn Shabbatons. As always, the Shabbatons were co-coordinated by the talented and gracious Mrs. Chaya Kaplan, a respected member of the Monsey Chabad community.

The weekends offered the students the opportunity to experience Torah observant community life and family values as they spent Shabbos at the individual homes of Anash in the area, and participated in an enriched program of inspirational events.

The women’s Shabbaton focused on the special Mitzvos of the Jewish woman and included a tour of the New City Mikvah founded by Rockland County Shliach, Rabbi Avrohom Kotlarsky.

The highlight of the Shabbaton was a Friday afternoon visit to the talented and gracious shaitel macher, the inimitable Mrs. Miriam Tsinman, who so generously took time off from her busy clientele to host the students at her wig studio. The mitzvah of tznius and head covering became alive and attractive, as Miriam styled wigs to suit the individual students in order to demonstrate that modesty can indeed be beautiful. Her expert choices of style and color brought out each student’s beauty potential.

But Miriam did not stop there. She enlisted the chesed of Mrs. Jessica Leiser, a very talented make-up artist, to apply refined make-up on the students to complement their “new look” for the wig demo, as well as make them feel festive and elegant for Shabbos.

The Ivy League Torah Study Program is one of its kind in the world. The National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education offers unaffiliated college students the unique opportunity to explore their Torah heritage without financial pressure by sponsoring fellowships for the 5 week summer program of intensive Torah study.

Registration for next summer’s program begins immediately after the Yomim Tovim. (Please call 718-735-0200 for information.) Shluchim and interested individuals are encouraged to submit applications early, as space is very limited for this unique program of far reaching spiritual impact. As a former ILTSP student so aptly put it, ”Ivy League is where it all began. It opened the door to a new chapter in my life.”

There will also be a smaller shul for around 35 people, a kitchen, and a hot meals service. The new building will even include guest rooms that will be rented out for Shabbos. New from Rabbi Eli Hecht: Yom Kippur – A Day of Faith
10:20:PM Thursday, Sep 23, 2004

It’s that time of year again. Members of the Jewish faith annually gather in housesof worship for the holy day, Yom Kippur for a day of atonement. This day isconsidered the holiest day of the Jewish religion. The name, Yom Kippur, literally means a day of cleansing or wiping clean. By evoking this aspect of cleansing ourselves from sins and past transgressions, man is forgiven and given a new lease on life. It is a time to strengthen or re–establish our faithin G–d.

The significance of being the holiest day of the year causes all Jews from many different practices and walks of life to come together and devote themselves to their spiritual needs. The service in the synagogue starts before sunset of the proceeding day. It usually runs until late in the evening and resumes during the following daytime. It is a day of self–examination. No food or drink is taken. continue...

Morristown commemorates Vov Tishrei - 40 years
SNS NEW JERSEY BUREAU
11:30:PM Thursday, Sep 23, 2004

This past Vov Tishrei, commemorating 40 years since Rebbitzin Chana's passing, Harav Michoel Seligson, farbrenged at Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim in Morristown NJ. The event was a great success. Approximately 120 bochurim from Tiferes and Tomchei Yeshivos, respectively, participated.

Among the different thoughts relayed by Rabbi Seligson to the assembled bochurim, were a number of stories about the Rebbetzin Chana. The Rebbetzin had a custom to turn on all the lights in her house immediately after Shabbos.

On the last Rosh Hashana before her histalkus, the Rebbetzin told Rabbi Junik, "You don't know what you have," (referring to her son, the Rebbe) "and I am saying this, not as a mother." On the 2nd day of that Rosh Hashana, a fire broke out in the women's shul burning the Rebbetzin's chair.

The farbrengen concluded in the early hours of the morning.
