EXCLUSIVE TEXT OF INVOCATION FOLLOWS

It is my honor to begin with the Biblical priestly blessing: “May the L-rd bless you and watch over you; May the L-rd make His countenance shine upon you, and favor you; May the L-rd lift His countenance toward you and grant you peace.”

Almighty G-d father in Heaven. May it be your will, that your blessings be granted to the Honorable Charlie Crist, our new Governor of the State of Florida, and the Honorable Jeff Kottkamp, our new Lieutenant Governor of the State of Florida,

May they be endowed with Divine inspiration as they commence their term in office, and with a spirit of wisdom, a spirit of understanding, and a spirit of counsel:

Wisdom to turn adversity into opportunity, to transform the challenges of today into the seeds from which will sprout the successes of tomorrow;

Understanding to properly direct the resources of government according to the needs of all citizens; and Counsel to unite us all in working for a better Florida.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneersohn, would continuously remind us that our country, The United States of America, is a nation of deep faith and great kindness.

At the 127 Chabad-Lubavitch Centers throughout the state of Florida we daily live the motto of our Rebbe, “one little light can dispel much darkness”. Every good deed brings healing and unity to a world so fractured, making it a more G-dly and kinder place.

Let our beautiful state serve as a beacon of sunshine and a force for good, and may Florida join its sister states of this blessed union in tipping the scale of good and evil for the entire world at large, for the good.

Almighty G-d, bless our troops that they ensure a stable and safe world, and, especially for so many who call Florida home, that they prevail and return safely home.

May it be Your will, Almighty G-d, that our distinguished Governor and Lieutenant Governor find fulfillment, strength and joy in their calling, as they lead and serve the people of Florida.

May they go from strength to strength as they embark upon this new era of leadership of this great state.

Oseh Shalom Bimromav Hu Yaaseh Shalom Aleinu V’al Kal Yisrael V’Imru Amen. He who makes peace in His Heavens, may He make peace for us and for all mankind.

And let us all say, Amen.

Report: Lebanon War Exposed Israeli Weak Spots

Tuesday, Jan 02, 2007

(IsraelNN.com) A new report states that the 2006 war in Lebanon exposed basic and inherent weaknesses in the IDF and in Israel's decision-making mechanism. The report was prepared by the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv University.

According to the report, Israel continues to hold a sizeable military advantage – both quantitative and qualitative – over its neighbors. However, the Israeli home front was shown to be dangerously susceptible to attack by surface to surface missiles. The Lebanon war increased the motivation of Arabs in Gaza, Judea and Samaria to arm themselves with these missiles, say the report's authors.

A New Light Revealed (i)

If the exile meant nothing more than atonement for sins, it should have become progressively less severe, as each successive period brought partial atonement. In fact, however, we observe that the exile is becoming ever more intense, while G-d's presence is becoming less and less manifest. The earliest days of the exile were illuminated by giants of the spirit, the tannaim; they were succeeded by the amoraim; and in the generations since that time the divine light has become more and more heavily veiled.

It is therefore obvious that the exile has an additional, inward content.

The innermost function of the exile is the ultimate revelation of a new light. The greater the divine focus on this new revelation, the more is the [present] flow of divine light deferred. (This concept is explained in passage (ii), below.) Hence, the greater the divine focus on the future Redemption, as we draw ever closer to the coming of Mashiach, the denser does the exile become. Ibid., Vol. II, p. 361
