CAMPERS HAVE A BLAST @ CGI TZEIREI HASHLUCHIM

Wednesday, Jan 02, 2002

image1874.jpg
CGI Tzeirei Hashluchim, has Boruch Hashem completed a successful season of Winter Camping for Young Shluchim from small Jewish communities around the globe.

The Camp, directed by Rabbi Moshe Pinson, and organized by the Shluchim Office, a division of the Merkos L'inyonei Chinuch was held in the relatively warm location of Oracle, AZ in cooperation with the Shluchim there Rabbi and Mrs. Yossi Shemtov.

The camp started on Sunday, The last day of Chanukah until Wednesday, 11 Teves (December 10 - 26). As in the past, the boys camp used the spacious facilities of the newly renovated Triangle Y Ranch Camp, and the girls camp used the beautiful COD Ranch.

The high luxurious standards of this vital program are due in part to the generous friendship of the camps longtime supporters Rabbis: Don Yoel Levy, Moshe Weiss, Mendel Duchman, Dovid Smetana, Yossi Zakon, Tzemach Rosenfeld, Sholom Rubashkin, Zalman Cousin and Shlomo Bistritzky.

As the reports are coming in from Campers, Parents, and Staff, it seems that this year's camp was truly out of the ordinary and something very special. With a total attendance of over 100 children k"ah, the staff outdid themselves by giving the children a Ten Day experience packed with fun, excitement, activities, trips, and of course interesting study sessions, farbrengens, games and competitions on various themes and issues they live through in their day to day Shlichus to bring Moshiach Now!

New Hebrew-Language Site on the Rebbe's Torah

Wednesday, Jan 02, 2002

A new Hebrew-language online Torah initiative was advertised Wednesday on the popular Israeli website ynet.co.il, the homepage of Israeli newspaper Yediot Acharonot. A blue, animated banner ad featuring an image of the Lubavitcher Rebbe links to the new website, my.ynet.co.il/habad.

According to the site, "Three ma'amarim from the Lubavitcher Rebbe's Torah on current events, the weekly Torah portion or Chabad heritage will be posted weekly. A form will follow each item, allowing you to post your reaction and read other surfers' reactions."

Currently, the site posts a Sichah of Shabbos Parshas Shemos, Teves 19th, 5751, a letter from the Rebbe to current Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Israeli sovereignty issues, and a Ma'amar of Shabbos Parshas Shemos, 5730.

Shnayim Mikra (4)

Wednesday, Jan 02, 2002

When is the earliest time that one can start doing Shnayim Mikra for the week? The Alter Rebbe (285:5), Ktzos haShulchan (72:1 and the Kitzur (72:11) state that one can start from Sunday, since we have already starting reading the new Sedra at Mincha of Shabbos. Although The Mishna Brura (285:7) writes that one can really start from after Mincha on Shabbos, [It would seem that since the Pri Megadim concludes with a Tzarich Iyun if it is acceptable to review the whole Sedra after Mincha, and it is mentioned by the Ktzos Hashulchan as well, that perhaps that is why the Alter Rebbe says to start from Sunday.]

If one is traveling from Eretz Yisroel during the week where the reading of the sedra in Eretz Yisroel is a week earlier then in the Diaspora, such as occasionally happens after Pesach, it would not be necessary for him to do Shnayim Mikra a second time. On the other hand, if one is traveling from the U.S. or other country to Eretz Yisroel and thereby will miss the reading of a sedra, he needs to do both sedras that week. (Badei HaShulchan 72:3).

If one did not do Shnayim Mikra one week and he wants to make it up the next week, he should first do the previous week's sedra and then that week's sedra. (Badei HaShulchan 72:9)
