Rabbi Shea Hecht met with New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly Tuesday afternoon afternoon at police headquarters. Rabbi Shea Hecht's son Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht and the Commissioners Chief of Staff were also present.

While some of what they discussed cannot be disclosed at this time. They did talk about the police relationship with the Orthodox Jewish community and general and Crown Heights in particular. Commissioner Kelly spoke for a few minutes about the Rebbe.

The commissioner also spoke about many of the successes of the New York City Police Department over the last decade. Including that this past decade New York City has had an approximate 50% reduction in murders and that they have successfully prevented 14 terrorist attacks on the City. Think about what happened on 911 now think about preventing 14 terrorist attacks.

The commissioner recognizes that there is much more that needs to be done but at the same time he expressed his appreciation of working with the Jewish community. He expressed his commitment to do all he can, for safety, security and preventive policing.

Rabbi Hecht told the commissioner with G-d's help we shouldn't need the services of the police department. As well as that our community is thankful for all he, his staff and the police as a whole do for us.
