Semicha Students Complete Their Shechita Studies

This year, the Beis Medrash for Halachic Studies at Toras Emes offered bochurim who were interested the chance to complete their shechita studies, including on the practical level.

The bochurim had an educational tour of the Off Yerushalayim abattoir while shechita was being done under the supervision of Rabbi Yurkowitz. The bochurim also did some shechting themselves and learned about different types of treifos and how to check for them.

The beis medrash was founded by Rabbi Chaim Sholom Deitsch in order to deepen the study of halacha and emphasize its origins within the Gemara and the Rishonim. It is run by Rabbi Assaf Shimshon Engelman, and the bochurim have also attended shiurim with Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg of the Beis Din Hagadol.
