Everyone is surely aware of the importance of checking Tefillin and Mezuzos especially in the month of Elul. However, after taking a look at the above Parsha - open story for enlarged view - we are struggling to figure out, why, when these same Tefillin were checked on previous occasions did the Sofer not find the mistakes.
We would hope, that notwithstanding the crush of work they are faced with during this busy time of year, our Sofrim are giving each Mezuza and ALL the Parshios in Tefillin the proper attention they deserve.
This should also serve as a very important reminder to check your Mezuzos & Tefillin, especially if you have not done so recently.
Can you find the problems?
PS. Hashem's name was purposely cropped out.

Whoever finally found the problems must be pretty competent.
That said, I was once somewhere and I noticed a Sofer who seemed to be working on some Stam and was busy yapping away on the phone at the same time...Is that a problem I don;t know. But that is what I saw.
missing a daled
and the word vahayu
Not the most beautiful parsha ever, I don't think, but the glaring error is in the basic text of Shema. Perhaps some sofrim are only looking for cracks in letters and neglect to do a basic check to make sure the correct pesukim are written?
Maybe, when purchasing new Tefillin the Sofrim should supply independent verification from an outside Sofer that the Parshios were checked and are 100%...
I had a mezzuzah i bought last year from a sofer that was pusul this year and I paid $200.00
It can be a big problem if they are not trained properly or do things in a hurry. Before you go to a particular Sofer check him out! In Ch a good reference is does he Go to R' Zirkind's Shiur? If yrs chances are he received Kabbalah from r' Zirkind & is reliable your Sofer should be able to explain clearly any problems answer questions why 7 what the problem with your tefillin ,Mezuzah, Megillah or Sefer torah is & not just give you a bill with a box checked off
