At a ceremony held this week in Palmachim, attended by top police brass, the ZAKA unit of the Shfela, supervised by Rabbi Mendy Chaviv of Kfar Chabad, inducted 46 new volunteers into their ranks.

The volunteers, which included many Chabad Chassidim, were accepted into ZAKA after taking a special course that involved months of training.

“The Lubavitcher Rebbe explains that Hashem’s true choice of Am Yisrael was specifically related to the body,” said Rabbi Chaviv at the ceremony. “There are many organizations that are concerned with the soul, such as the Chabad Houses that are scattered around the world. But ZAKA is the only organization that deals with the scope of Hashem’s true choice – the sacred body of the Jew.”

During the ceremony, the speakers included the officer of the Shfela Region Brig. Gen. Shimon Ben Harroche of the Central Region, chaplain Rabbi Asher Melamed, and the commanding officer of the volunteers Moshe Gamru, and ZAKA spokesman Motti Bockchin.

Rabbi Schneur Chaviv was the emcee. At the end of the ceremony, the volunteers received certificates and personal equipment.
