On Thursday, a chanukas habayis was held at Colel Chabad’s new soup kitchen in Arad. The soup kitchen was unveiled by Dovid and Eda Schottenstein and their friends Yossi and Hindel Swerdlow. The kitchen was donated by the Schottensteins in the memory of the Swerdlows’ daughter Shula, who died tragically young.
At the ceremony, certificates of merit were given to those who helped to open and run the kitchen. Rabbi Zalmanov, who emceed the event, thanked all of the participants and the many volunteers who help to run the soup kitchen. Both Yossi Swerdlow and Dovid Schottenstein addressed the crowd.
Deputy Mayor Maxim Okanin represented the city, and he praised the activities of Chabad and also presented Rabbi Sholom Duchman, head of Colel Chabad, with a special gift.
Also present at this event were deputy mayor Moshe Edrei, the head of the Yad L’Arad organization Yisrael Sidicaro, and other notable figures from Arad.
The final speaker was Rabbi Duchman, who recalled the blessings that the Rebbeim, from the Alter Rebbe onwards, gave the Colel Chabad organization over the many years that it has run chessed activities.
