At the beginning of last week, Rabbi and Mrs. Reuven Schneerson, a couple of young shluchim, moved into the “Banim” Quarter, a new suburb of Kiryat Gat where there are presently no shuls. Only three days after moving in, they managed to gather a minyan for Maariv, which was held in their home and followed by a farbrengen and a lechaim.
The members of the minyan are new residents of the Banim Quarter, and they each made a lechaim to each other to celebrate moving into the new homes. They also decided to found regular minyanim and shiurim in their new neighborhood.
Rabbi Schneerson moved into the area in coordination with city Chief Rabbi Moshe Havlin as part of his training for the Rabbinate and Torah Shleima, an organization that runs shiurim under the auspices of Colel Chabad and with the support of Rabbi Yitzchak Mishaan.
Rabbi Schneerson is hoping that until a permanent shul is built in the neighborhood, his home will be the venue for shiurim and tefillos.
