The Rebbeim encouraged men to immerse, daily in the Mikva. In Lubavitch, the saying “going into the water” meant going to the Mikva. Why? Because water symbolizes purity. Immersing in “water” allowed for one’s negative ego to be submerged by the “higher” power. This is the Chasidic idea of “Bitul,” humility.
