On Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Yochanan Butman, director of Chabad’s schools in Hadera, met with Mayor Chaim Abitan.
It was an ideal opportunity for Rabbi Butman to thank the mayor for his help in developing the Chabad schools in Hadera, where conditions have improved thanks to Mr. Abitan’s personal involvement.
This year, the mayor and the local education department allotted a larger building to the girls’ school, as they did the previous year to the Talmud Torah.
At the meeting, the mayor and the shliach said a lechaim for the New Year. Mr. Abitan told Rabbi Butman about his moving visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel in Brooklyn. “Such holy awe …” he said. “I couldn’t go to America without davening at the Ohel.”
Rabbi Butman gave the mayor Rosh Hashanah greetings from the children, parents, and staff at the city’s Chabad schools, and he wished him many good wishes in continuing in his position.
