Luciana's trip down memory lane

GUEST of honour Luciana Berger took a trip down memory lane on Sunday when she presented the end-of-term prizes at Etz Chaim MATT cheder.

The Liverpool Wavertree MP told pupils she attended her cheder in north London from the age of five until batmitzvah and enjoyed it so much she took Jewish studies at GCSE even though she didn't go to a Jewish school.

Numbers at the cheder have doubled over the past few years. Principal Rabbi Avremi Kievman revealed the magic formula is learning with fun to create a "positive, enjoyable experience" aided by "enthusiastic, wonderful teachers".

He announced that for the first time the barmitzvah class pupils are staying on and he hoped the same would apply to the bat mitzvah class. continue...
