(Chabad.org) Almost 250 people came out Friday to take part in the Hamptons Jewish Children’s Carnival in Southampton, N.Y.
The carnival, which takes place annually in conjunction with Camp Gan Israel, a Jewish day camp that serves most of the Hamptons, began in 2006 and has become a season highlight for the community, said Rabbi Rafe Konikov, co-director of the Chabad-Lubavitch of Southampton Jewish Center. It frequently features live music, various activity booths, and all kinds of food; parents come out and watch different bunks perform skits, and an awards ceremony celebrates the season’s accomplishments.
“Its purposes are twofold,” explained the rabbi. “It’s really to celebrate the last day of camp and to say goodbye to campers and give special appreciation to the counselors. People ask about it for weeks in anticipation.”
This year’s day camp, directed by Chany Konikov, drew 88 kids for the summer season between July 4 and August 12.
