Last week, the final letters were written in a new sefer Torah at the home of shliach Rabbi Sagi Har Sheffer in Ness Tziona.
Large crowds gathered to watch, including special guest Rabbi Yona Metzger, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, who praised the family who donated the sefer Torah to the Chabad House. Afterwards, the sefer Torah was carried in a joyful procession, accompanied by a huge crowd, singing, and even drums played by local children. The main city streets were closed to allow the procession to proceed.
The sefer Torah was donated by lawyer Isaac Horowitz of New York. Mr. Horowitz, today a Chabad Chassid, got to know Rabbi Har Sheffer in his youth, when he spent some time studying in yeshiva in Kfar Chabad. They became even closer when Rabbi Har Sheffer studied in yeshiva in Crown Heights. So when Mr. Horowitz decided to write a sefer Torah, he felt that the best place for it to be was in Rabbi Har Sheffer’s Chabad House.
