On Rosh Chodesh Elul, a Chabad kollel for top students will be opening in Ashkelon. It will combine top Rabbinic studies and activities with the community.
According to the plan, the avrechim will live in various neighborhoods in Ashkekon, and apart from studying for the Rabbinate, they will also hold a network of shiurim for local residents and help the city’s shluchim with their activities.
“It’s a dream come true,” said the director of Chabad in Ashkelon Rabbi Menachem Lieberman. “Over the years, we have wanted to open this kind of special kollel, and as the result of cooperation with Colel Chabad, we have merited to have a kollel in Ashkelon.”
The kollel will be one of eight that are functioning in Israel’s major cities, and it will provide an answer to the claims of the Plessner community as it will be a combination of Torah study and community work.
At the same time, the avreichim held a special day to get to know each other. They heard about the needs of the city’s various population sectors, Ashkelon’s demographic makeup, and more. The avreichim and their families are currently planning their move to the city, with the help of the local Chabad Rabbis with getting settled in their new homes.
