Rabbi Shraga Nosson Dahan, a Chabad Chassid from Beit Shemesh and a chaplain in the regular army, has been appointed to lead the halacha division of the Army Rabbinate.
Rabbi Dahan will serve as the head of the kollel and beis medrash that clarifies halachic issues for the Army Rabbinate in Jerusalem.
Former Sephardi Chief Rabbi Bakshi Doron welcomed the appointment:
“I know Rabbi Dahan personally. It is a very appropriate appointment that will bring much honor to the Army Rabbinate, the IDF, and the Israeli Rabbinate.”
Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger wrote a personal letter:
“I would like to bless [Rabbi Dahan] that he will reach great heights in Torah and the Rabbinate, and will continue to be a credit to those who work for the welfare of the public.”
Rabbi Dahan has been trained as a city Rabbi by Israel’s Chief Rabbinate, and until now he was the chaplain of the army’s planning department.
