(Chabad.org) Bryansk Regional Gov. Nikolay Denin welcomed Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar to his city last week, taking the opportunity presented by a pending dedication of a Jewish ritual bath to discuss Jewish educational and communal issues.

Denin and his deputies met with Lazar, Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zaklas, Bryansk’s chief rabbi, and local Jewish community chairman Leo Linkov at the regional administration headquarters.

Afterwards, the Jewish delegation headed over the new ritual bath, known in Hebrew as a mikvah, to join hundreds of locals and supporters to dedicate the facility. As the first phase of a major expansion project for the local Jewish community, the new mikvah will soon join an renovated synagogue, nursery school and other buildings.
