FIRE TRUCK & 18 HUMMERS IN EXOTIC CHANUKAH PARADE
9:52:PM Saturday, Dec 07, 2002

A fire truck topped with a lit 6 foot menorah led an unusual procession of vehicles on Thursday evening. Eighteen hummers with menorahs mounted on them followed, bringing the message of Chanukah to the Inland Empire in California.

The parade made its way through the cities of Upland, Claremont, La Verne, San Dimas, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and Alta Loma. Police on motorcycle escorted. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., during the peak of commuter traffic, the Chanukah parade was met with honks of approval and waves of passerbys.

The event was organized by Rabbi Sholom Harlig, director of Chabad of the Inland Empire with the assistance of bochurim Yitzchok Bendet, Yitchok Feldman, and many community volunteers.

Both the local newspaper and L.A. times covered the story.
